Review of Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) by Kyle S — 25 Apr 2016
I was very disappointed. I love Sally Field, and had hoped to see her as an unconventional and funny character who comes to define her life out of the ordinary. Doris is a caricature of an older woman.
If she had played a believable quirky character with some evidence of awareness or perception, which is what I came to see, I would have enjoyed it so much more. I don't believe anyone but a very unintelligent person would have believed what she came to believe as the movie progressed.
Right from the beginning, with her freaked out self, glasses askew, in the elevator, I felt Doris to be silly, and not likeable at all. The side story of her hoarder persona seemed to be an after thought.
It didn't really provide much insight, and certainly, her cruel sister in law was corny and overdone.
