Review of Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) by Mark H — 20 Mar 2016
Sally is excellent, the script is mediocre. This older woman younger man idea is very difficult to carry off. It needs a really well written script to do so, and that is sadly not the case here. Harold and Maude is an example of where it can actually work.
Sally usually makes the attempts at comedy work, but too often her overall desperation to have this guy fall for her is downright cringeworthy. It could have been made more believable if her character hadn't been so extreme, almost slapstick.
This is a missed opportunity. Hard to believe that 99% liked it, although where I saw it, the average age was about 70 so that may have had something to do with it.
