Review of Happythankyoumoreplease (2011) by Tyler G — 20 Mar 2011

I guess you could say this movie is Big Daddy for people who like movies, and interesting secondary characters, and that innate indie-ness which is definitely prevalent here. I don't think I've heard a line in a movie recently that rings more true than, "Every five years I realize what an asshole I was five years ago." It may not have been absolutely central to the story but I give credit to Radnor if that came directly from his pencil, or even if he found it and thought it important enough a line to include it in the final cut.

I guess older cynics don't like this movie because it is yet another indie movie about 20-somethings finding themselves and each other, and maybe it just doesn't do enough to stand out from the rest for them. But, unfortunately for the disgruntled movie critics who only drag that tomatometer past 50% for movies which they know will give the academy that special tingle in their panties, there are more coming. There are millions of stories like this which are happening right now, because that's what 20-somethings do, and you can be sure that some of them will be brought to film, for better or worse.

This one is a good one. It is his first and I hope he makes more. I can promise you one thing though. It won't make you sad, and that is an emotion I could sometimes do without. Though, my only criticism ties into that. I would've been happier at the end if the pitfalls along the way had been more dramatic. Other than that, no real complaints. Perhaps I'm just an indie-fan, but I will have no problem watching movies like this for the rest of my life. And luckily I have no doubt they'll keep coming.
