Review of Hannibal Rising (2007) by Anand K — 14 Jun 2013
I think one of this movie's greatest faults was that Hannibal always had a reason and motivation for every person he killed - revenge. One of the things I've always found most frightening about Hannibal is that he seemingly has no motivation to select his victims. He can kill anyone, at any time, and does not need to justify it. In this movie, he only kills the most gruesome of people, and there's nothing to hint at that feeling that he could kill me, or anyone else innocent. I'm aware of that the story is taken from the book by the same name by Thomas Harris himself, but they could've done a better job at delivering the source material, as the book does a better job at giving the impression of that the last murder we see him do is by no means the last person he'll kill.
Looking away from what it was intended to be, I still thought it was a reasonably good movie if I don't think of that as Hannibal, and the first part in Lithuania was well-done and was so creepy it honestly gave me the chills (as it was intended, I believe), so I give it 3 stars.
