Review of Hannibal Rising (2007) by Alex R — 06 Jun 2010
Hannibal Rising seems like an unnecessary prequel, but it wasn't that bad of a movie. It's unlike any other Hannibal Lecter movie, as this is a revenge tale that reminded me of Kill Bill's story and maybe that's why it's not well received.
Perhaps we miss Anthony Hopkins chilling performance and the origin story felt out of place. The fact that the Hannibal Lecter character is attached to the movie is why it disappoints. However, it's a well made film and not that bad for a revenge thriller.
It's not as memorable along the lines of Silence of the Lambs or even Red Dragon, but Hannibal Rising could have been so much worse considering the Freddy Krueger-like popularity of the character.
