Review of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) by Matthew W — 21 Aug 2010
I'm going to give this one a passing grade because I thought it was the most interesting one since the original. I like the fact that the children were portrayed as empowered protagonists, and I liked how mean Donald Pleasance was to little Danielle Harris.
Wendy Kaplan as Kim was a bizarre but very interesting character to watch. The third act seems like it belongs in another movie, but unto itself, it's kinda nice. Michael Myers is portrayed in the third act more like a human character than a supernatural monster, especially when Danielle calls him 'Uncle', giving him reason to pause in mid-stab.
I also like the mysterious man in steel-toed boots. I don't care who he was (because nobody knows), but in the world of formulaic slasher movies, not knowing something can be a blessing.
