Review of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) by Jonah S — 18 Sep 2018
This film deserves points for a genuine attempt at an eerie, gothic style and once again wonderful performances from Pleasance and Harris, even if Dr. Loomis does seem to be a little out of his gourd at his times.
I was also genuinely upset by one of the murders in this film, which at this point in slasher history is a feat in of itself. The beauty of this film, however, is only skin deep. It suffers clearly from being rushed into production after the enormous success of the previous entry and the result is a film that scatters in many divergent directions both in plot and tone, as well as featuring possibly the most annoying character in cinema history this side of Jar-Jar Binks.
(How that keystone cop music got past the final edit is beyond me).
