Review of Halloween (2007) by Gabriel B — 23 Jun 2012
I liked it as much as the original, but in a completely different way. I know some people had a problem with the first half of the movie, but I thought that there was more of a build with Micheal's back-story.
I found it utterly ingenious that Rob Zombie could take such a tiny and seemingly unimportant detail from the first film (The Rabbit in Red match pack), and make it such a pivotal part of this new story, in his own style, of course.
In the end, that's really what makes this movie great, the fact that it is as relevant today as the 1978 version was in it's own time. I mean, let's be honest, horror films have changed a lot.
Is it bloody? Yes. Is it extremely violent/brutal? Yes. Is some of the disgusting dialogue pervasive and unnecessary? Yes. I, unlike some, was expecting this when I went to theaters to see it, but was utterly shocked at how well-formulated and thought-provoking it was.
I think, in its own way, this film will be viewed as a masterwork in classic horror over the decades to come. Another hit for director Rob Zombie!
