Review of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) by Michael L — 30 May 2010
Worthy in it's day, worthy now but a decent play that doesn't really work as a movie. The plot is driven by the day in the life of two families, one white, one black who learn their children are to wed.
The film charts the path from shock to tolerance and Californians can feel awfully proud of themselves. It's important but sadly that importance masks a real movie. The dialogue is wooden and completely driven with exposition.
Spencer Tracy's finale just about saves it but it is tiring by then. Important.
