Review of Gregory's Girl (1980) by Patrick L — 26 Mar 2013

A unique coming of age romance that starts off with a bunch of "peeping toms", that includes Gregory, spying on a nurse disrobing in front of her open window with drapes wide open (she may be something of an exhibitionist). Gregory is an unremarkable, rather lazy soccer (football) player, who ends up seeing a girl who will end up taking his spot (and costing another teammate his spot) on the team as he moves back to goalie.

She surprisingly accepts his invitation on a date but fails to show up. A girl who knows her comes to tell him and "put him out of his misery" and they walk and talk for a while. She hands him off to another girl who takes him for a walk and hands him to a third girl with whom he seems to relax and "click" with.

They spend the evening together, she walks him home and they kiss on his doorstep (as his younger but "wiser" sister wonders what is going on with him). I'm glad I saw this film.

I think all of the critics below need to return to "critics" school and learn to watch films without preconceived notions or endless comparisons to only marginally comparable films....

Flixster was warned repeatedly about having the wrong preview on here, they failed to fix it but it seems their solution was to get rid of all of the previews just as they got rid of the capability of searching for friends (hammering some people with the notion that they don't have and cannot get friends here) and got rid of the photos section as well as the texting section. Yeesh, Flixster, do you really have to prove your incompetence?
