Review of Green Room (2016) by Acacia — 02 Dec 2018
Such a fabulous movie! Mahershala Ali as Dr. Don Shirley, and Viggo Mortensen, as Tony Vallelago, are amazing as a concert pianist and his personal assistant/driver touring in the deep south just before passage of the Civil Rights Act.
Two more mismatched humans would be hard to find. Tony has his own prejudice to overcome and it happens as he watches how Doc is treated with both respect and as a much lesser being. He becomes increasingly protective of Doc and doesn’t understand his ability to treat those who disrespect him with such respect.
The growing brotherhood between the two men is a wondrous thing to watch. Tony becomes a much better person through his association with Doc. Very serious subject, but told with such humor and humanity.
