I'll start by answering the question I know everyone is asking... The first one was far better than this. That being said, this was still a good movie. The first 20 minutes of the film are a total snore-fest full of unbelievably cliche scenes. It's clear the Viscous Brothers had their egos swelled due to the success with the first film as they were hell-bent on trying to make this movie so "different" and "unique" and were trying everything in the found footage book to please people, sometimes succeeding, sometimes falling flat on their face. In fact, the Viscous Brothers even made a cameo appearance in the movie. Although it's small, this bothered me. It seemed like the movie was made out of an ego trip. Anyway...

Grave Encounters 2 tended to provide some freaky scares here and there. I would not call this movie scary but rather downright freaky. The special effects are good enough to make the scares work on an interestingly freaky level. The demon and ghosts all had terrifying looks of their own, but their moments were rather predictable. It did have its nice share of shocks, and one scene had me gagging almost. However, within the last 15 minutes, I would say the movie was completely rushed and the writers completely ran out of ideas, as it took a totally random turn and even copied a whole scene set-up from the recent found footage romp, Chronicle. Either way, it was a decent movie, with some nice scares here and there, but also plenty of dumb decisions made for certain scenes. Worth your time for one or two watches.
