I've always loved films about the history of television and about America. This film is a near perfect mixture of it. It tells the story of Edward R. Murrow and his news crew, and the risks that they took as they stood against Joseph McCarthy in attempts to stop the Red Scare witch hunts. It's a classic story of man standing up for what is right in spite of opposition. The acting in this film is phenomenal, some of the best that I have ever seen. You also have to appreciate George Clooney's talent for helping to write such an engaging screenplay and keep the audience member's attention throughout with his direction. I just adore this film. I also really liked that they used archival footage of Joseph McCarthy. It seemed like the right step because it makes the film feel all the more realistic, almost as if the story is unfolding right before our eyes. The characters are very engaging and interesting, the story is simple to follow and yet at the same time offers some complex themes about the power of the press, the ability to do right and how to face criticism. This is one of those films that I will welcome repeated viewings with open arms. Maybe this isn't the type of film for everyone, but for me, I really loved this film. If these kind of films intrigue, or even if they don't, I would definitely recommend a watch.

9.9/10.
