Review of Good (2008) by Jeremy W — 04 Mar 2010
Good is a well acted pile of junk to put it bluntly. The story is plausible, but boring and boring and oh did I say boring. It takes so long to eventually go.........no where. It lacked compassion, drive, heart, or a desire to draw you in to be part of the life of men and women affected. Well all I can say is that it didn't affect me.
A famous German writer and collage professor dealing with family problems gets an offer from the Nazi SS to join their side and be one of their academics. Against his families and best friends will he joins only to see the errors of his ways. He may lose everything he loves.
I don't know who to blame but I think it will have to be the screen writer who has one other film that was also not worth the time to watch. The director Vicente Amorim is nothing to brag about either and deserves some of the blame, but he kept the film constant and smooth even if it was consistently bland. The actors were the only ones who shined in this film, from Viggo Mortensen from so many hits, Jason Isaacs from Harry Potter to Event Horizon, and Jodie Wittaker from Venus the only one I saw her in and really liked and would suggest over this one any day. All the acting was solid and the only reason anyone could really like this film, and it is the only thing I liked about it.
There are so many films about the Nazi's or the problems they caused, that are amazing that this one just feels like a joke. I can not recommend this film it is lacking to many main points. If you are looking for a really good film of similar to this I can recommend some (Must see's) just not this one.
