It seemed to descend into cheap melodrama. crucify me if you want but this is one of the few disagreements I have with the afi top 100. im not a big fan of rock hudson or elizabeth taylor. james dean does a pretty good job but cant be expected to carry the whole film.
in my opinion, the american family is not fit for an epic scale piece.
