Review of Giant (1956) by Andy F — 13 May 2018
There's a tendency to overrate old epic movies and that seems to be the case with this on RT! I last watched this movie about 35 years ago so had pretty much forgotten everything about it. James Dean is mesmerising and undoubtedly the film's best value.
At 3 1/2 hours long it tries to ape Gone With The Wind (unsuccessfully mostly) and Giant certainly has its moments. Completely fizzles out in the last 20 minutes though as the movie goes into sentimental preachy mode.
A very interesting film, it's influence tangible (Dallas), but not one I would ever revisit.
