Review of Giallo? (2009) by Ceph J — 07 Sep 2010
A perfect example of an exploitation film. It explores violence against women to get entertainment but fails to hold a interest. Adrien Brody gives a wooden performance and doesn't even have any conviction in his lines. This is a B-movie screenplay. When Brody says "I work alone because I do things differently" --viewers will be wondering what the hell he's talking about. Ironically, the critical clue "Giallo" which means "yellow" is deduced by the victim's sister (Emmanuelle Seigner who gives an energetic peformance).
Once the suspect is identified, the movie becomes an unintentional comedy. When Brody is investigating the hospital, what do you know, the suspect walks in which results in a weak chase. After, it gets worse with the scene where the suspect just appears as Seigner is taking a shower in her apartment. Director Argento does keep the tension in the first half of the movie but at the midway point, the movie repeats itself and gets boring. I thought Brody was enticed by big bucks to make this dud but then realize he's a producer. Oh, oh...not a wise choice.
