Review of Gettysburg (1993) by Toteaux P — 12 Feb 2008
A good visual reference for military science and military history courses. This film inspires me to compare the US Civil War 1861-1865 and the Java War/ Diponegoro War 1825-1830. The latter broke out in 1825, but in terms of military tactics, Diponegoro and his generals (such as Sentot Prawiro Dirjo, Mulyosentiko and Tumenggung Surorejo) did better in outmaneuvering superior enemies.
Diponegoro had practiced "guerilla tactic" to attack the superior Dutch infantry and artillery. I am just wondering whether Union Generals and Confederate Generals did not have any ideas of guerilla tactics at that time.
In this case, they could have been able to minimize the number of victims. Perhaps, the battle of Gettysburg was one battle that shows the stupidity of the generals of both sides since they unnecessarily sacrificed a large number of soldiers.
