Review of Gettysburg (1993) by Abel D — 06 Mar 2013
Ronald F. Maxwell's criminally underrated epic about the turning point of the American Civil War. The film analyzes the battle of Gettysburg from the perspectives of the Yankee and Confederate commanders who fought there.
Michael Shaara's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel translates so beautifully to the screen and produces some of the most heart-wrenching and moving monologues I've ever heard. Jeff Daniels' magnificent performance as Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain alone makes this film worthwhile.
