Review of Gettysburg (1993) by Randy B — 12 May 2013
Best civil war movie still to date. This was made prior to CG being anything more than something Disney played around with in their animated movies. So the hundreds of roll players are real people and the effects are all hand done by pyrotechnic masters.
Ted Turner shot the payroll with this production. You have to marvel at the detail. The monologues can be melodramatic with stern meaningful looks and swelling background music. Yet, I think it all helps add to the romanticism many of us associate with the period.
Seeing this again on a large screen tv in HDX reminded me of why I fell in love with it. The cinematography is truly amazing.
