Review of Gettysburg (1993) by Isaac T — 08 Jun 2017
This 4 hour long movie is based off of the book The Killer Angels and when watched on DVD, one has to turn over the disc because of it to continue the last hour and a half or so. The battles are somewhat cheesily represented, but the reenactors and the main cast bring a human feel to the Civil War--one which tore the United States apart and which greatly affected families both North and South.
The movie has several scenes of what might seem like endless exposition and at times cheesy acting, but it pays off. The only problem I have with it is the casualty count that it displays at the end of the film puts it at 53,000 killed or wounded.
Casualties were just over 51,000 over the course of the 3-day battle, so I'm not sure where they came up with 53,000.
