Review of Get Carter (1971) by Peter O — 20 Mar 2007
A classic Brit movie where Micheal plays, what many would agree, was the best role of his career although it would have to battle with The Italian Job for the title of Sir Micheal Caine's best performance.
Micheal plays Jack Carter, a ruthless and cold blooded assassin, and we're talking about a gritty, realistic portrayal of an assassin here, not the throat slitting, sniping one-man-army that Hollywood often depicts.
He returns to his home-town in Newcastle upon hearing news of his brothers death. What ensues if a filthy-gorgeous rampage of revenge and personal grudges. Graphically speaking, this movie is relentless with its depictions of violence and was heralded as one of the most violent movies ever made by one critic though you only see under 5 deaths in the whole film.
If you wanted a comparison to this film then Lee Marvin in Point Blank would come closest and this is one of the top British gangster movies of all time. See it if seedy underworld movies are your type of thing.
