Review of Get Carter (1971) by Tim S — 14 Nov 2013
Michael Caine is his usual don't-take-your-eyes-off-the-screen self in this early 70s crime thriller. Caine is 'Jack Carter', a London heavy who travels to the now lost world of Newcastle as it was in the 70s, a bleak post-industrial hellhole.
His mission? Avenge his brother's murder. A groovy soundtrack and action that is crying out loud to be described as 'gritty' complement Caine's tough, yet somehow melancholy demeanour.
There is even an existentialist element to the plot, if you're of a mind to see it.
