Review of Get Carter (1971) by Adam Z — 24 Aug 2007
Michael Caine is an absolute gem in this gritty, rather British gangster film. The most notable thing from the off is the camera work: people are shot from behind other's heads and objects to try and create a tense, claustrophobic world, and it succeeds brilliantly.
The level of realism is immense, and it's not hard to get drawn into this seedy underworld. Not a light hearted film, put it that way, but still one of the genuine British film classics.
