Excellent adaptation of the Ted Lewis novel. Set in an decaying Newcastle (as opposed to Scunthorpe in the book), in a world of sleaze, decaying houses and new buildings, Signalling the end of the 1960s.
Contains one of the best scenes ever in a film with the Jack/Eric scene at the racetrack.
