Review of Get Carter (1971) by Allan C — 03 Jun 2015
What a tough, cynical crime flick ... yet extremely British at a time when British crime films hadn't really got this tough and cynical yet. Caine is wonderful in a type of role he had really not been asked to play before.
He wouldn't be an actor you'd think of as a tough guy before this flick. He's matched against a real parade of slime played masterfully by Ian Hendry, playwright John Osborne, and an array of British character actors.
This is a film with a dark dark ending that almost feels like welcome relief.
