Review of Get Carter (1971) by Laura V — 24 Apr 2008
This is a classic; an ultra-violent film with very little blood and gore. Caine is great as the hard, hard gangster. The backdrop of sixties Newcastle is integral and the seediness of the businessmen cum crooks is pitched perfectly.
The bookie is murdered in so chilling a fashion that I go cold when watching it. The ending, although lost after the first watching, is a tour de force. This is how films shoudl be made.
