Review of Gerry (2002) by Joshua H — 19 Oct 2008
I'm really undecided on this one...there was just an inordinate amount of blank space, audio-wise. It feels to me like it was originally a short; which got funding, so Van Sant added disproportional amounts of desert scenery.
The only time the pair of them walking was interesting was when they (mysteriously) got out onto the salt flats, and Affleck was in focus and they were walking through dust. That was interesting. The cinematography is really good.
..but I don't know that the content actually contains enough to make this worth watching. If you want some Van Sant, just watch "Elephant". Much better film, in my opinion.
