Review of Gerry (2002) by Kwende M — 25 Aug 2011
This movie asks a lot from its watcher, because it's just something you haven't seen before, and the minimalism can be boring from time to time if you look at the story as an outsider and from a distance.
Directing, quietness and the photos created the hypnotic feeling, where sometimes you couldn't say if it was realism, surreal abstraction or both at the same time what you were into. As if you were there with the characters and the amazing dialogues (and monologues), you could feel the journey from frustration to slightly growing worry and finally hopelessness.
It's not begging to be seen again and again, but i'm going to recommend this experience to others a lot. And a word of warning: don't watch the trailer before seeing the movie, it spoils too much.
