Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947) by Private U — 19 May 2008
This film tackled a subject that most of Hollywood didn't want to touch despite the heads of the studios being predominately Jewish. Film and book media has always been a great way to address racial issues.
Gentlemen?s Agreement was surely a big step in the process of accepting the reality of anti-Semitism in post WWII America and overcoming it. I was a bit surprised the Holocaust was never mentioned in the movie.
I suppose that subject was a bit too fresh for people to be anxious to include it in their movies.
