Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947) by K S — 29 Jun 2008
Post-war anti-semitism in the United States. An ugly beast that would raise its head numerous times since. Who else would bring as much moral authority to the Phil Green character than Gregory Peck? A film that drew it fair share of controversy is also a Best Picture winner. Not to mention one of Elia Kazan's earliest successes as a director.
The moralist philosophy of the plot may seem dated by todays standards but the movie holds up.
