Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947) by Thiago A — 18 Feb 2013
Best Picture Winner of 1947, this study about anti-Semitism in the 1940s is very topical today, even if it isn't as prevalent now. Gregory Peck plays a reporter who pretends to be Jewish so he can write a proper article about how Jews are really treated. What he finds out is disturbing and changes his views on the current society. This can be seen as a little preachy, but the strong, quiet performance by Peck and the sure directing of Elia Kazan make this a drama worth watching.
Grade: A-.
