Review of Gaslight (1944) by Daniel P — 03 Sep 2007
Another movie in which a handsome man hides sinister plans from his vulnerable wife (see also Suspicion). Although it probably wouldn't have been viewed as such at the time, this is a great look at how spousal abuse can encompass more than just wife-beating - Boyer's constant belittling of Bergman makes her just as timid and self-doubting as if he were actually beating her.
Check out a very young, very flirtatious not bad-looking Angela Lansbury as the maid. Yes, there was a time before she was the old woman who solved murders on CBS.
