Review of Gamer (2009) by Kate S — 10 Jul 2012

I personally liked the movie, its a good turn your brain off and enjoy. As far as expecting things like amazing acting and a focused story. It tends to jump around, it tries to get to the points it feels it needs to tell, which can sometimes make the movie confusing. Some stuff feels like the movie is attempting to show whats going on within its universe, or its real life to the game life. The people invovled at that given moment, unfortunatly with only 90 minutes to really tell the story. I think it hurt the movie a great deal.

Grant it they didn't really get into the plot until 30 minutes into the movie, but they focused on giving us some background of this possible future before they worried about getting into the plot of this movie. Once we getting into the plot it does have the feel of a modern day version of the running man, another movie based in the future. While that one focused on TV and society, this one focused on Video games and society.

I think this movie gives a good representation of PVP(player vs player) and things that happen within the acctual internet world/ video game world with interactions of other players. The constant cuts within the action and Society scenes seem to be representive of the ping and showing the game from the viewer's perspective instead of the the main characters prospective. The shakey cam look, I think works for the PVP scenes in this movie.

Now the movie's premise I think was appropriate for this society espically when it came out we have the Wii, even at the time Kinect and The PS3 Wand annouced to come out. So this movie was attempting to touch on what might happen next after making people the controller.

I think aspects of this movie were ahead of its time or it was geared to the wrong audience. Given how many people enjoy the various first person shooter games.
