Review of Funny Games (1997) by Christopher C — 10 Apr 2008

I saw the American one first, a few weeks ago, and then this one tonight (4/11/08).

They're both perfectly cast, which didn't seem possible. I thought that whoever did it first couldn't possibly have done it as well as the one I'd already seen (the '08 cast). Not the case.

The American version shocked me more but I think it was only because it was the one I saw first. Both movies had the same director and the 2008 was a shot-for-shot reproduction of the 1998. When I watched the '98 version, I was just looking for little nuances and differences in the actors' performances.

I had already crawled out of my skin and been thoroughly mind-blown the first time.
