Review of Funny Games (1997) by Ken N — 18 May 2008
I grabbed this doozy off netflix because I was angry that I couldn't see Haneke's american remake. I was pleased. I get happy when I see a film that really pushes convention and exceed my expectations.
It's not scary or creepy, it's just...dangerous. You are at the complete mercy of the filmmaker. The mood is tense and dreadful the entire film and we are given no relief from it for it's duration.
Michael Haneke proves that he is one of the most innovative and dangerous filmmakers in the world with this clever piece that teases us with violence, all the while being a complete satire of the genre.
Hope the american retelling is just as profound.
