Review of Funny Face (1932) by Dickie L — 05 Jul 2009
If you can swallow the concept that a 28 year old Audrey Hepburn would fall instantly in love with a 58 year old Fred Astaire, and that the gorgeous Audrey, icon of elegance, is considered by all around her to have a "funny face", then you just might get a kick out of this silly confection.
There's 2 or 3 good dance sequences, and eye-catching production design, but the songs are forgettable and so is the story.
Fred and Audrey are both good, but not together, and Kay Thompson somehow upstages both of them at every opportunity.
Not one of the great musicals of its era.
