Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Sean H — 13 Jul 2010
I've wanted to see this classic for some time and it was worth the wait. Sadly, the censors of 1953 watered down an amazing story (it was a book first) but the film still works. Some of the directing and acting is "stiff" but was the "style" for that time period so you have to take that into consideration.
Frank Sinatra was outstanding but watch this movie for the outstanding performance by Montgomery Clift. Clift is probably one of the top 10 actors of the 20th century - it's a shame he drank himself to death.
