Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Matthew A — 20 Aug 2011
The Best Picture winner for 1953 lacks the provocative punch of the James Jones novel, but it still created quite a stir during its initial theatrical run. For today, the storyline is pretty tame: Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr ignite the screen as their characters engage in an affair.
The memorable beach scene, the climactic bombing of Pearl Harbor, and Frank Sinatra's Oscar-winning performance as Maggio are just a few of the picture's many highlights.
