Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Russell G — 02 Feb 2012
From Here to Eternity (1953) (4).
(Drama, Romance, War) It is an interesting movie in that it has two main characters with two different romances that do not overlap nearly as much as one might expect. This movie does a great job of building a strong set of rich characters and did a very good job with casting. Frank Sinatra, Montgomery Clift, Burt Lancaster, and Deborah Kerr all made memorable acting performances and made some iconic classic film moments. I really liked how well the story is constructed and how it builds rich characters. I liked the two separate romance stories own their own and I really liked how they emphasized the value of thinking for oneâ(TM)s self and sticking to your values in the military, even when they try break you at every opportunity. There was a lot to like about this movie but unfortunately it all comes crashing down in the abrupt and unsettling set of events in the ending. I felt like the movie was cut short and the ending was completely unfulfilling for all of the characters. It felt like all the development in the plot and characters was for nothing in the end and that is unfortunate.
