Review of Forbidden games (2015) by Matt M — 14 Mar 2013
A young boy finds a little girl wandering around the forest after her parents and her pet dog were killed by a Nazi attack. He brings her home to stay with her family. But their new found friendship is threatened by a rivalry between families and a game they play, in which they steal crosses to build their own cemetery.
Forbidden Games is a haunting vision which juxtaposes a child's innocence with the horrors of war in a most compelling way. In this way, Clément's vision of childhood is quite unique and never gives in to the crowd pleasing gimmicks that often plague dramas starring young children as lead characters.
