Review of For a Few Dollars More (1965) by Paul A — 04 Jan 2012
The sequel to A Fist Full of Dollars nearly reaches the heights of the first film. It's arguably better, since it includes three deeply developed characters (and two American actors along with the impressive Gian Maria Volontè as Indio) unlike the first movie (which really only had one character - the Man with No Name - along with a bunch of useful composites to drive the awesome plot).
Lee Van Cleef was f-ing awesome. No other actor (aside from Eastwood and John Wayne) works better in a Western.
There's one other area where this improves upon the original: the music. Ennicio Morricone gives us pounding soundtrack that's actually an important part of the plot. It's not quite as good as the score for the Good the Bad and the Ugly, but that one may have been the best ever produced.
One final note: the choices for Italian actors sometimes creates hilarious results. Indio's gang is full of some colorful weirdos. The english dubbing is a bit better, as well.
