Review of Flash Point (2007) by Justin K — 07 Jul 2008
I just watched this with on blu-ray thanks to the wonderful gift of importing from Hong Kong that the internet has given us, as well as the Playstation 3. This is definitely an old school brawler done with new school budgets.
.. the martial arts on display are of the close quarters variety, which means a healthy dose of elbows smashing into jaws and knees getting lodged in chests... and to be honest, this is some of the best fighting from Donnie Yen yet.
.. it isn't as flashy as something like SPL, but the sheer brutality of the final fight scene is almost completely without equal. It is about 20 minutes of non-stop savage beatings - all lads who were asking for it.
The film kicks off as a Infernal Affairs/Hard Boiled lite type knockoff and ends up being an all out edge of the seat actioner where Donnie investigates with his fists and asks the occasional question with his knee.
Worth it to see Donnie - as a cop - beat a suspect to death in front of a crowd. Seriously - if you like HK action, check this out.
