Review of First Man (2018) by Craig G — 25 Dec 2018
I was amazed that Chazelle would make such a patriotic and positive film at first.
But after watching First Man, I felt that it was really not patriotic. Neither in the film nor outside the film, Chazelle and Gosling had no intention of portraying Neil Armstrong as a national hero, but just viewed the moon landing program from his personal perspective.
Damien Chazelle's tried his best to restore the oppression of the cold war background and promote the audience to reflect on the space arms race. Of course, even without jazz, Chazelle hasn't given up on her own personal expression. Dancing in the living room and reminiscing about her daughter outside the crater-it's really a dream of going back to La La Land.
