Review of First Man (2018) by Keith M — 13 Oct 2018
Neil Armstrong was a deeply private person even before he went to the moon. This biopic of a man in torment with his emotions tries to cut through some of the layers to reveal who he was but ultimately couldn't just as Neil kept them to himself.
He was a cerebral engineer and consummate pilot first who struggled to balance being the father and husband he needed to be while exercising the demons within himself and the dangers of his career. A portrait of how all heroes are really human beings after all which is really all Neil thought of himself anyway.
Excellent movie!
