Review of Fallen (1998) by Karl P — 16 Feb 2008
Really strong movie, in a lot of different categories. I was very pleased with the story, probably above all else. It was very well told, I appreciated all the twists along the way, the hints of the noir dribbled in to accent the detective theme (though I would have appreciated more of it).
John Goodman and the other secondary actors did tremendous jobs, especially as the movie progressed. I thought Denzel wasn't as snug in the role, and I'm curious to see how he would have done if they had made this movie ten years later.
I would change a few things, for sure, but the good far outweighs that which needed improvement, and I really enjoyed the ride.
I'd say check it out if you're a Denzel fan, a Goodman fan (if such fans exist), anyone who loves a good crime movie (who carries an open mind), and those (like me) who would eat supernatural themed entertainment for breakfast.
