Review of Evil Dead (2013) by Andy W — 27 May 2015
The original EVIL DEAD is considered a cult classic, so many may say this remake is unnecessary, and I guess you could say it is, but I still feel this movie does more than just pay homage to the original.
It really feels like it fills in a gap that's empty from horror films nowadays. It brings in realistic, practical gore effects. I don't know about you, but even if it doesn't look real, practical effects will always will always be more disturbing than CGI.
In addition to that, the characters aren't morons. The movie gives logical reasons why they don't leave the cabin. I mean, if you're drug addicted friend said that a tree raped her in the woods, are you going to believe her, and even when they do try to leave, the road is so flooded they're trapped.
It's little things like that that flesh this movie out so much. It's able to be it's own movie while retaining the look and feel of the original, something I can't say for many remakes.
