Review of Event Horizon (1997) by Steve B — 13 Jul 2012
With 'Prometheus' doing the rounds at the moment, I've started to get back into the sci-fi movies and Xbox360 games genre. Most specifically the gory, horror stuff. This movie landed in my lap to rewatch and evaluate.
As a plot synopsis it sounds pretty promising, a salvage team search the outer reaches of Neptune and our known solar system to locate a transmission from a so thought, missing spacecraft - the Event Horizon.
With the crew all gone and the ship in a frozen state the mystery begins to what has happened and more importantly where had it been. The only clue is Dr Weir who designed the ship and tells the salvage crew that the ship can create black holes in order to jump from one point to another and quicker than known crafts.
The question is what has been brought back and lies within the ship? The movie has some pretty "icky" gory horror and flashing scenes, all a little dated to nowadays technology, it has some jumpy bits and darkness but I just found that the movie lacked pace and the gel to make all the ingredients blend and found it was trying to become a movie it's not.
Overall a good sci-fi horror of the genre.
