Great film, it's the kind of movie that once again raises the question of how much the morality of mankind has evolved over time. The five hundred years between the two parallel stories in the film, which have witnessed all sorts of modernization, is a pretty long time (I'd like to think anyway).
Sadly, history seems to indicate that civilization often, if not always, does not come without a cost to at least some human souls. It is even more unfortunate to again realize that the less barbarian actions of mankind today may merely be new facades of subterfuges egoistically motivated, shielding the truth and blinding us even when we feel clear-minded.
