Review of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) by Alex M — 12 Jul 2016

After first viewing the trailer, I wanted to write Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind off as another one of those "weird" movies I would have no interest in. Yet after finally giving into my curiosity and watching it, I was instantly drawn in within the first five minutes.

The characters are quirky but real, their problems relatable, and the story strange but extremely engaging. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet deliver wonderful performances as the two leads in love, as does the rest of the supporting cast - which includes the great talents of Tom Wilkinson, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, and Elijah Wood.

With plenty of plot twists, eye candy, and engaging performances, this film constantly kept my full attention for its almost two hour length. It's got one of the most original screenplays of any film to date and characters that are easy to fall in love and more daring direction than you will see in most films these days; as a result, it's one of my favorite films as well as a fantastic study on relationships and their effects - both the good and the bad.
